Activism

Our group is dedicated to being active in the community and cultivating a positive public image of secularism. We have a community center, a library, and an information desk program available to anyone who is interested.

Our group feels the need to have more of a public presence. This semester, we have begun work on a community center, where we wish to provide easily-accessible resources such as people to speak to, stories, mentors, and a library.

Community Center

The SAIU community center is located in the IMU Student Activities Tower, room 577. You many make an appointment to visit the community center by emailing us.  During this time you can hang out, browse our library, ask questions, talk to a secularist and get more information about our group. Click here to view more information about our community center.

Advocacy

The Secular Alliance likes to advocate for secular issues, such as the separation of church and state and promoting reason and rationality over superstition and misinformation. In the past, we’ve sponsored talks and lectures on relevant topics such as evolution and cognitive science. We’ve had an evolution “teach-in” and plan to have more of these events, on topics such as evolution, cosmology, logic and heuristics.

Atheist Bus Campaign

In 2009 we partnered with the Indiana Atheist Bus Campaign to put billboards on Bloomington city buses reading “You Can Be Good Without God”. We wish to continue this sort of activism and outreach in the future.
