This Friday the Secular Alliance will be attending a Hell House in Ellettsville. A Hell House is a Christian version of a haunted house, intended to present scary scenes from a world of secularism and the Hellish consequences, so to speak. Tickets are $6. Members are encouraged to bring $10; proceeds will fund the Secular Alliance.

We will be meeting at the IMU circle at 8:00pm. If you need a ride, please leave a comment or email secular@indiana.edu.

Stand for Science: Confront Homeopathy!

The SAIU will be joining several groups around the country in confronting homeopathy on Friday, 10/28.

Homeopathy is renowned for both its popularity and the overwhelmingly unsubstantiated pseudoscientific tenets it purports. In the UK, the growing 10/23 protest has called for the end of government support of homeopathic companies and it’s about time the United States joined her sibling.

The Food and Drug Administration regulates the homeopathic industry not to lend credibility to such products, but to supposedly protect consumers from products that can kill them. This is not enough. Just like with actual medications (as homeopaths liken their products to), testing of the claims made by such companies must be both accurate and rigorous. Without such standards, homeopaths openly use the stamp of FDA approval to advertise for the effectiveness of homeopathic remedies.

Join the growing numbers who are taking a stand for science-based medicine. Join us on October 28th in confronting homeopathy and demanding that the FDA require peer-reviewed, scientific research in order to garner its approval. Take a stand for science!

Are you a supporter of homeopathy? Come out and join us for respectful debate.

** NOTE: we will be keeping this event respectful and we will not be turning people away for their beliefs. **

Here is a James Randi lecture on homeopathy.
