Jesus Camp

Come join us for our weekly Movie Night in Swain East 105 at 8pm.

This week we will be watching Jesus Camp. Jesus Camp is a 2006 American documentary film directed by Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing about a Pentecostal/charismatic summer camp for children who spend their summers learning and practicing their “prophetic gifts” and being taught that they can “take back America for Christ.” According to the distributor, it “doesn’t come with any prepackaged point of view” and tries to be “an honest and impartial depiction of one faction of the evangelical Christian community”.

This is a fantastic/terrifying film that I think all secular (and non-secular) folk should see.

Come join us in the Dogwood Room of the IMU at 8pm for our weekly Russell’s Tea Party.

As I’m sure pretty much everyone knows, this meeting is being held on Valentine’s Day. So, what better day to discuss our feelings towards things like love, marriage, children, etc. Some people see love as a magical sort of thing and the term “soulmate” gets thrown about. It’ll be interesting to see how secular folks can have healthy relationship without God/magic.

I hope to see you there.

Teeth

Come join us for our weekly Movie Night in Swain East 105 at 8pm.

In keeping with our theme of “good movies marginally related to religion,” we will be watching Teeth.

This is a film about a girl who promotes abstinence-only sex-ed who is a little different down south (let’s say). The only other thing I’ll say about this movie is “vagina dentata!”
