This week we’ll be stretching the definition of SAIU movie night a bit and watching “The Mist.” This is a movie based on a novella by Stephen King where a mist descends upon the town. As the town descends into panic, one of the residents exclaims that the mist is a sign of the impending apocalypse. That’s where SAIU comes in! Religious zealotry is always an entertaining time.

If you’re interested in the Secular Alliance of IU, come to our Spring 2010 Call-out meeting at Fine Arts 102 on January 20th, 7 PM. You may be a current member, or you may have just heard of us. No matter what, you’re invited to meet the leadership of SAIU, current members, students and staff interested in joining us, and you’ll also find out about all the stuff we do.

Let’s kick of the semester SAIU style with our first official Sunday Funday. We will be meeting in the Dogwood Room of the IMU at 8pm on Sunday 1/17.

We will be having our callout meeting this coming Wednesday so instead of diving right into heady topics, let’s relax and catch up with all of our secular friends that we’ve missed since last semester!

Tonight we will be watching “Creation” in Woodburn 003 at 8pm. Please note the room AND the time change.

According to IMDB, the plot is: English naturalist Charles Darwin struggles to find a balance between his revolutionary theories on evolution and the relationship with religious wife, whose faith contradicts his work.

The main reason this movie was chosen is due to the controversy surrounding it. As of September 2009, this movie had failed to find a US distributor because the theory of evolution is too controversial for American audiences, according to its producer.
