Join us at IU Auditorium on October 12 at 7 PM for a lecture by famed evolutionary biologist, author and atheist Richard Dawkins, entitled The Greatest Show On Earth: The Evidence for Evolution. The lecture is part of the Fall 2009 Themester, Evolution, Diversity and Change, a series of events and programs concerning the theory of evolution from many different perspectives. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Secular Alliance of IU and the Indiana Memorial Union Board.
This event is free and open to the public. There will be no tickets, and we expect the 3200 seat auditorium to be completely filled for the talk, so please arrive early to get a seat. IU Auditorium is located at 1211 East 7th St on the Indiana University campus in Bloomington, IN. Parking information can be found here. There will be a free shuttle operating that evening.
The lecture is also a companion to Dr Dawkins’ new book of the same name. In it, he sifts through fascinating layers of scientific facts and disciplines to build a cast-iron case: from the living examples of natural selection in birds and insects; the ‘time clocks’ of trees and radioactive dating that calibrate a timescale for evolution; the fossil record and the traces of our earliest ancestors; to confirmation from molecular biology and genetics. All of this, and much more, bears witness to the truth of evolution.
The Greatest Show on Earth comes at a critical time: systematic opposition to the fact of evolution is now flourishing as never before, especially in America. In Britain and elsewhere in the world, teachers witness insidious attempts to undermine the status of science in their classrooms. Richard Dawkins provides unequivocal evidence that boldly and comprehensively rebuts such nonsense. At the same time he shares with us his palpable love of the natural world and the essential role that science plays in its interpretation.

This is a great site; and Dawkins @ IU is a great event! I’ll try to make it.

are tickets required for this event?
Can we reserve seats? I hear Dawkins usually packs the house.
I’m a very big fan of Richard Dawkins. Love all of his work. From books, studies, teachings, and videos. Would like very much to attend. I see this is a public event, I would just like to know if I need a ticket, and if not, how early might I want to get there to make sure I get in?
I’ve been waiting for an event with Dawkins that is close by that I could attend.

Mr Dawkins may very truly evidence an aspect of evolution; However it remains an explaination for the beginning. This factor seems to be scientifically ignored. If there was a catamaclismic bang or whatever there must be a source for the spark and a venue for the mass. Absurd as I think it is one may chose to believe humanity once was mere amebia swimming in the sea but explain the source of the amebia and the sea. This my atheist friends is my case for faith!
Is this first come, first serve? Or, are tickets needed? If tickets are needed, how do we obtain them? I would hate to drive all the way from Bowling Green, Ky and not get to see the lecture. This is the closest Dawkins is coming to my area, so I’d love to be able to visit IU.
Is there a cost to attend?
Do we need to sign up/reserve a seat, etc?
Can you please state the terms of attendance for this event? I.e, is it open only to members or IU students? Is it free and first-come-first-served? Are there tickets for sale for anyone who wants to go? There is nothing said about it on the IU auditorium site, either.
I have the same question as matt, please do post about tickets/admission to this event. I intend to come in from Chicago, so any information will be helpful. Thank you.
Indiana University Southeast journalism student needs a ride.
Anyone attending from the Louisville/Southern Indiana let me know.
I’m willing to pay for the gas handsomely.

Is Richard Dawkins actually going to be at IU, or is this a video presentation?
Tickets are free for everybody, not just IU students. Furthermore, they are first come, first served.
The auditorium seats 3,200, but it’s Richard Dawkins, so get there early.
And yes, Richard Dawkins is actually going to be at IU.[1]

Same question as above. Do need a ticket, and can a non student attend?
Thanks.
Richard Dawkins is actually going to be there

And so, I would greatly appreciate it If you would let me know if I can reserve a seat with the club in the auditorium. I am and have been on the mailing list for a long time I just thought writing this wherever I could would help you guys respond to me in a more timely fashion. Thanks a lot!

Hey so I’m coming from Charleston and am bringing a few people…but I have no idea what time we should be there by? I mean, when are tickets going to be made available?? Like early evening around 5? Or earlier than that?
WTF…read the effing announcement:
“This event is free and open to the public. There will be no tickets, and we expect the 3200 seat auditorium to be completely filled for the talk, so please arrive early to get a seat.”
Will he do a book signing? Dawkins rules!!!
Yes, there will be a book signing!
I’m probably driving from Chicago for this event. @Gary or anybody else, is there anybody who wants to carpool or split gas? I don’t have a car but I can rent one.
This guy is full of it, dont waste your time…….
Richard Dawkins Lecture at Iindiana University Huge Success!
3200 filled the auditorium with hundreds turned away at the door to hear Dawkins speak about his new book, “The Greatest Show on Earth.”
What a great event!
Thank you for doing this! It was fantastic to be around so many awesome people and hear such a distinguished person speak.
It is great to hear and read the many viewpoints on creation,
but we aren’t there yet. Darwinism while it contains much evidence
to support it, it remains incomplete and imperfect.
Religion, as espoused by all religions, suffers from similar limits.
I am afraid we will only continue to postulate and not know.
