Russell’s Tea Parties

Posted at 11:10 pm October 26th, 2008 by SAIU

The Russell’s Tea Party is at 7pm every Sunday in Student Building 231. These are meetings to discuss a weekly topic in the realm of philosophy, politics, skepticism, belief, current events and anything else that sparks our interest.  The discussions tend to be pretty open-ended — even if we start on a specific topic, that doesn’t mean we’ll end up on the same one at the end. You’re welcome to come in and just listen, if you’d like, but don’t feel too intimidated to chime in!

Contact our Outreach Director, Jessika, if you’d like to help print and hang flyers!

Chalking suggestions

Posted at 1:10 am October 6th, 2008 by SAIU

We welcome interested people to chalk for us on their own time, but we ask that you stick to some set sayings and slogans.  These are group-approved — if you do this, you can put “saiu.org” and/or other group info (such as time and place of our next meeting) by them.  Please refrain from chalking unapproved phrases!  If you have a suggestion not on the list, email SAIU or come to a meeting to discuss it with the group.

Some slogans we like are “Imagine no religion” or “Imagine no religion—we would all be free!” and “Question everything”, “Does god exist?”, “Ready to think outside the church?”, “Reason is fun!”, “Evolution is real/Gravity is real” or “Evolution=theory/Gravity=theory”, “Is religion rational?”, “Let there be thought”, and “Got doubt?”

Pictures that are okay to draw include: the Darwin fish, the Flying Spaghetti Monster or the Invisible Pink Unicorn (haha).

Again, this list is always open to suggestions and can be modified, but please check first!  We want our group to be represented in a friendly, respectful way.  Thanks all!

10/19/08: Russell’s Tea Party

Posted at 1:10 am October 6th, 2008 by SAIU

The Russell’s Tea Party has been rescheduled for 8pm, and now will happen every Sunday instead of biweekly.  It will be located at the IMU in various locations–check the calendar to find out exactly where.

Hopefully this time will stay consistent at least for the rest of the semester.

Above is an image advertising the event, as you can see.  If anyone wants to post flyers to help group publicity, let me know and I can send you the image above to print out flyers (you probably have a giant university print quota if you’re a student).

The importance of registering to vote

Posted at 2:10 am October 4th, 2008 by SAIU

You knew this was coming.

You’ve seen students walking around campus with clipboards, tables in well-trafficked areas, signs in shop windows, emails from campaigns, phone calls from public interest groups. Have you registered to vote?

We’re asking because the deadline to register to vote in Indiana is on Monday. After that, you cannot vote in the state. If you’re voting absentee, that’s another matter; check your home state’s own laws about registration deadlines. If you want help, check out govoteabsentee.org, which can walk you through the process.

After countless administrations and campaigns ignoring the importance of keeping faith out of politics, it’s important that secular Americans let their voices be heard.

About 15 of us went to go see Bill Maher’s new film, Religulous, tonight. If any of you missed out, we definitely recommend it!
